Stretch & Roll

Stretch and roll is a Yin-based yoga class with the added benefit of incorporating a foam roller or tennis ball for myofacial release. The benefit of this practice is to open up the connective tissue, or fascia within the body. Unlike muscle which responds to warmth and movement to become stretched, connective tissue is made of a dense material that responds better to longer holds with pressure over a period of time.

Yin yoga is a practice postures are held in a static and passive way over a longer period of time, usually between 3-5 minutes. There are 17 “classic postures” all held either in a supine, prone, or seated position. Additionally, it is a “cooling” slow paced class that utilizes various props to help support the body in each pose, allowing the student to fully release and surrender to the pose.

This class is an excellent option for anyone from a novice yogi taking their first class, all the way up to a yogi who’s had a consistent practice over a period of years. It is particularly a great option for those students who have injuries that might prevent them from attending a flow type of class, but are still looking to get the benefits of flexibility and spaciousness in the joints.
