Core Conditioning: Lesson 1

Core Conditioning is an all levels class. There are no pre-requisites. This class is designed to strengthen the primary and secondary muscles of the core complex. Strengthening the core complex helps to support and stabilize the spine, especially the low back. Focusing on the core muscles can help students learn how to properly engage and recruit their core muscles in a multitude of yoga poses, from arm balances, to boat pose, to standing balance postures.  This class is designed to be appropriately challenging to help students tap into their power center.

How to Introduce: Hi, Welcome to Core Conditioning. My name is _____________. This is an all levels, 25 minute class. Today we will be working on strengthening the full spectrum of the core muscles with a special focus on X ..

You can choose to have a special focus for your class. For example: obliques, glutes, lower abs, etc

Honoring the yogic principles:  This practice would fall into the Niyamas in the discipline of Tapas. Tapas is fiery discipline, it’s heat, it’s known as purification and burning away (endure intensity for the purposes of purification is one definition of tapas) – the core conditioning practice is a good way to challenge oneself and mindfully lean into our physical edge. It’s burning away the old, and making space for something new. When you offer intention setting and centering at the beginning of class, you can focus on the elements of this energy center which is the manipura chakra. This is the power center of self confidence, will power, and self esteem. Feel free to do your own research to get more information about this energy center.
