Graduates of this course possess a fluency in musculoskeletal anatomy that supports safe and effective teaching and sequencing of asana classes that are intended to develop strength, flexibility and self-awareness. Asanas are body shapes that are formed by the position of the body's many joints. In this course, you will learn how joints work in general, and how each of the body's important joints work specifically. This information will give you the understanding you need to work with the three types of of limitation that prevent going further into a pose, when that is desirable. Those limitation types are limitations in strength, limitations in mobility, and limitations in skill.
Yoga practice is to be tailored to the individual, yet it tends to be taught in a “one-size fits all” approach to people with different needs and abilities. In this course, learn specific teaching strategies that allow each student in your classes to make the practice their own. Learn to speak in a way that drives each student to take an active role in their practice in a specific way, thereby realizing the potential of the physical body to provide context for an authentic yoga practice in its most pure form..
